The martial arts club at Tiffin University believes in testing their members in many categories and making sure that they deserve their belt. Too many dojos promote just for money or popularity. It is better to be under-ranked than over, we add in extra categories to the test.
This is a Shotokan Karate test, but for real-world application students need to be proficient in grappling and other areas.
Here we see our testie, Zach in the second hour of his test, grappling with Dr. Steven Valesquez who is both judging the test and is also a 3rd degree black belt in Jiu Jitsu. This portion is to see how Zach reacts to being outclassed on the ground (if he gives up or tries to defend himself). My battery died before the end of the round, so try and count the submissions if you can keep up!
